WCAC Arrival and other notes

Ryken Swim Team,

Tomorrow will be a shortened practice, we will stop around 4:15 in order to be properly rested for the WCAC meet.    Please plan to have a good meal tomorrow night and stay well hydrated.   Don’t stay up late and have a good breakfast and healthy snacks prior to attending the meet.

All swimmers should be on deck by 11:45 in swim suits.   I have not seen assignments for team areas and usually when that is not announced it’s first come first served.   I will try to stake out a team area early but last year we had teams pushing into the area I was trying to hold and with no one there the area can shrink fast.    So, if you want to get a good space come a little early.

There will be a food truck and coffee truck onsite, we get a percentage of the profits from sales so encourage other spectators to purchase items.

Swimmers:   It’s very important to ease into the warm-ups.   Don’t jump in and take off as fast as you can, the whole point is to slowly bring your heart rate up and get the blood pumping.     Focus on judging the walls and get used to the types of blocks they have during the warm-up session.   You will also want to take advantage of the warm-up pool after and before races.   For those that have never had the opportunity to warm-up and cool down for races you need to know it’s a game changer.   It really makes a difference  and you should take the time to prepare for your race and then cool down after.  Your times will be faster for it.

Tomorrow’s practice is short, focus on details such as turns, breakouts and starts.  We will go through a meet warm-up and then you will be free to work those items and then cool down.

See you tomorrow!

VR,

Coach Gordon
