Ryken Swim Team Update

Ryken Swimmers,

If you can make it to practice today please prepare to do dryland outside.   We will do some running so bring your running shoes.    If you haven’t ordered your team suite then you need to get those orders in.   Information on the team suit can be found on the swimtopia equipment page.   Here is the information on metro to order your suit

The suit sizing kit is in the AD office, I will grab that and bring it to practice today so if you need to try on a suit let me know.   Please get your order in by tonight.

Next week we will begin using training equipment:  Fins, Paddles, pull bouy, and kick boards.   Kick boards are available at the pool so you don’t need to buy those.   Pull bouys are limited at the pool so it would be a good idea to have your own.    I recommend a mesh bag to keep all your equipment in.    During the day you will be able to store your equipment at the DWC, the AD office will give us a space.

We have not had to cut anyone at this point, everyone had demonstrated proficiency to a level to earn a spot on the team.    We have a great incoming freshman group!  Fall athletes are returning next week so expect the pool to be busy.   This means we need to keep a few things in mind:

During sets if you must stop you have a responsibility to keep the wall clear and avoid interrupting training by other swimmers.   Make sure swimmers can get around you.

If you need pass some one during a set you will simply tap their feet to let them know you are going to attempt to pass.   If your feet are tapped  you either need to speed up and try to hold your position in the lane or move to the right as close to the lane line as possible to allow the pass.   Do not stop.

When you are finishing to the wall immediately clear to one side to allow other swimmers to finish as well

You will need to always inter the pool feet first unless the coach approves a dive.   Always be careful when entering, this is where the bulk of serious injuries occur.    You do not want to cause a concussion or injure yourself and this is where it usually occurs.

Our first meet is coming up fast, I will discuss common practices for the meet later in the week.

If you can’t make it to practice today then have a great weekend and we will see you next week.

VR,

Coach Gordon
